Shilay

Shilay (born Shilderic Joamelus) is a Haitian singer-songwriter and producer who isn't afraid to push boundaries or explore any subject. Since childhood, he dreamed of being a singer, but it wasn't until moving to the United States that he began releasing music in 2019. His songs touch on everything from romance, heartbreak, and sex to humor, everyday struggles, and the political realities of his country.

As a folk and pop independent artist, Shilay is best known for blending Haitian folk with modern pop, always focusing on authenticity and originality. He writes and produces his own tracks, performing primarily in Haitian Creole, and is passionate about giving voice to the realities and dreams of his community.

Despite not having a mainstream hit yet, Shilay continues to build his audience with every release, working hard to earn recognition for his honest storytelling and unique sound.

Coming April 7, 2026, La Cigale is Shilay's upcoming 12-track folk album that he has been working on since 2023, representing a bold departure from his previous work and showcasing the more serious, personal, and emotional side of his artistry. In an era where making a folk album is a risky choice that goes against current trends, Shilay has chosen to blend Celtic music and old Haitian folk influences into something timeless and authentic. This vocal-focused, clean, and polished collection moves away from romance and bold content, instead exploring social commentary on Haiti, personal struggles, spirituality, endurance, faith, and hope.

Originally planned for April 2025, the album was postponed because Shilay needed more time to grow and develop, wanting to create something he could be proud of, something people can discover and something to leave behind.
